Certification is a respected credential, providing evidence of the knowledge and skills needed to deliver a quality translation.
UTA Certification is a mark of professional competence, backed by the association — not a self-declared skill.
UTA Certification offers independent evidence that a translator has professional competence in a specific language combination, verified through our certification exam.
Certification isn't a one-time achievement. Members are expected to keep developing their skills through ongoing training and continuing education, to keep their certification current.
Translators are certified in a specific language pair and direction. Certification is currently available in the following combinations.

Every certified member is listed in our public directory. Search the directory →
A certified translation is one accompanied by a signed statement affirming its completeness and accuracy. A translator does not need to be certified themselves in order to provide a certified translation.
No. There may not yet be an exam available in their specific language combination, or they may be well-established and not need the additional confirmation of their skills.
To earn certification, a translator must pass a proctored exam assessing comprehension of the source-language text, translation technique, and writing quality in the target language. Learn more about certification →
